Unitrans and the KAP sani2c cycle race – A Partnership in Motion

Every May, hundreds of mountain bikers take on one of South Africa’s most iconic rides: the KAP sani2c cycle race. Spanning mountain passes, sugarcane fields, and spectacular valleys from Underberg to Scottburgh, the race is more than a physical challenge – it’s a complex logistical undertaking.

Over more than two decades, KAP sani2c has evolved into far more than an endurance event. It has become a working model of how community participation, skills development, and economic opportunity can be intentionally connected. Communities along the route are not on the sidelines. They play an active role in delivering the event, ensuring that the value created flows back into local schools, households, and organisations, supporting long term impact.

For Unitrans, this is what makes the partnership with this event meaningful. It goes beyond logistics. It is an opportunity to contribute to something that creates sustained value, through practical skills development, local employment, and initiatives that leave a lasting legacy in the regions we operate in.

This year, Unitrans is once again proudly stepping in as the official full logistics partner, delivering end to end support that will help keep the race running smoothly from start to finish.

The Logistics Engine Behind the Adventure

Our team will travel an estimated total distance of 17680km during the event. From transporting gear across remote overnight stops to ensuring refreshment stations will be fully stocked, a bespoke, full-service logistics solution created by our dedicated team to meet the unique demands of the event.

This year, our team managed:

  • Bag and equipment transport between stages
  • Catering and refreshment logistics including refrigeration
  • Route infrastructure movement and setup
  • On-the-ground fleet support
  • Real-time coordination with event organisers

While riders focus on the trail ahead, our team will be working behind the scenes to ensure every detail is in place – from arrival to finish line.

Precision and Agility in Motion

Executing logistics across the terrain of KAP sani2c isn’t for the faint-hearted. Conditions can shift rapidly, timelines are tight, and locations are remote. But for Unitrans, it is an opportunity to showcase the same qualities we bring to complex logistics operations across Africa: reliability, agility, and operational excellence.

This precision execution began with robust planning leading up to the event that included an estimate of:

  • 6 Months of planning
  • 25 Weeks of co-ordination
  • 2 Rounds of site visits
  • 20+ Project Meetings
  • 72+ Driver Training Hours
  • 211+ hours of dedicated execution all before the first vehicle started it’s engine

Powered by Purpose

For all the Unitrans team members involved in the KAP sani2c solution this is more than just a job. Supporting KAP sani2c speaks to the heart of who we are as a business – supporting and empowering the surrounding communities, enabling movement, unlocking possibility, and being part of something greater than ourselves.

And as part of the KAP Group, we are honoured to play a role in an event that goes far beyond the race. One that creates employment, supports 16 local schools, and feeds close to 2 000 children daily through its community development initiatives.

Just as we help our partners in agriculture, mining, and FMCG navigate tough terrain to reach their goals, we’re proud to help every KAP sani2c rider reach the finish line – supported, equipped, and ready to ride again. Because whether it’s across provinces or across borders, the right logistics partner makes all the difference
