Safety

At Unitrans, safety is at the heart of everything we do.

Unitrans recognises that excellence in managing health, safety and our environment is vital to the success and sustainability of our business. We care about our people and the environment we live in and strive to ensure that risks are identified and adequately mitigated. We are committed to create a culture that will enable all employees and suppliers to reach the overall objective of ‘Zero Harm’ through their behaviour and commitment.

People, Health, and Safety.

Unitrans promotes a culture of care for self and others through individual and team recognition. Our focus is on compliance, accident prevention, and working towards zero harm. Our commitment goes beyond the workplace – we aim to empower our people with the knowledge, dedication, and clear guidelines that turn safety into a shared mindset. By prioritising personal growth and collective responsibility, we ensure that every employee finds meaning and purpose in what they do, driving success together.

Accident Management &
Proactive Mitigation.

We proactively seek out better ways to integrate technology to help prevent accidents and enhance our safety protocols. With tools like DriveAlert, Dashcams, and vehicle tracking, we monitor and adjust driver behaviour in real-time. These technologies not only prevent incidents but also provide valuable data for coaching and future prevention. Our systems help ensure drivers are well-trained, well-rested, and safer drivers on the road, preventing incidents, saving lives and contributing to a stronger economy.

Our commitment to safety is summarised by the following beliefs:

We believe that our SHERQ culture forms an inextricable part of our organisational culture, actively influencing attitudes, beliefs and behaviours of individuals with regards to safety, quality of service and performance and the wellbeing of our employees and environment. All employees are responsible for their own health and safety and that of others and do so by forming part of SHERQ Committees, Staff Forums, participating in Risk Assessments and reporting any unsafe conditions or acts.

Through maintaining an independent safety culture (brother’s keeper), providing the required recourse and leadership involvement, accepting accountability for our actions, a non-negotiable approach to compliance and our continual focus to improve the way we operate.

We believe that all accidents and incidents, no matter how insignificant, are preventable and through corrective and preventative actions, we work towards ‘Zero Harm’ to people and the environment. ‘Zero Harm’ means everyone is empowered to exercise stop work authority where it is unsafe or in prevention of harm to the health of our employees or others.

We recognise that customer satisfaction and our competitiveness is dependent on the quality of our service provided, long term sustainable relationships, our transparent approach and strategic customer alignment.

We balance safety, operations and quality.
