Sustainability
Powering a better future by doing better, today.
We understand that embracing sustainable business practices isn’t just important, but essential.
At Unitrans, we understand that embracing sustainable business practices isn’t just important, but essential. As such we have made ESG (Environmental, Social and Governance) a strategic priority to help drive real change. With clear visibility of key data, we shape strategy and policy positions on key sustainability issues, working closely with stakeholders to bring sustainable supply chain solutions to life. We partner with local communities, authorities, business partners, and internal teams to apply sustainable thinking across every aspect of our operations. Our leadership is committed to creating a roadmap that ensures every part of our business is pushing towards a greener, more responsible future, while maintaining the highest standards of data security and operational transparency.
Aligned with global ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) principles, Unitrans takes meaningful steps to support the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs 8, 11, and 13). Together, we aim to reduce value chain emissions and develop greener supply chains.
Creating sustainable supply chain solutions through innovation and collaboration.
Effective supply chain management leads to optimisation, improved business efficiency and resource utilisation, which in turn leads to reduced emissions, internally and for our clients, offering real business opportunities and competitive advantage. Sustainability is one of the core pillars of our solutions excellence division and includes innovation and initiatives.
Our sustainability innovations
and initiatives:
Fuel efficiency and route optimisation.
Cutting down on kilometres while delivering the same payload – that’s the power of optimised route planning. Using advanced technology, real-time data, and routing algorithms, we fine-tune journeys for maximum fuel efficiency. Our drivers are the key to this, and with our ongoing driver training programmes and data visibility systems such as fuel usage monitoring systems, we hold our operations accountable for their performance and provide valuable insights for further improvements.
Carbon emissions dashboards.
Knowledge is power, and our carbon emissions dashboards give us the insights we need to make real-time changes. By tracking every drop of fuel burned, we’re able to hold ourselves accountable and push the boundaries of what’s possible in reducing emissions. We’re not just cutting our own carbon footprint – we’re helping our clients reduce theirs too.
Fleet and facility optimisation.
A well-oiled machine runs clean. We keep our fleet operating at peak efficiency through route optimisation, driver monitoring, RTMS accreditation and various technologies. Our technical teams are constantly reviewing and testing products and fuel alternatives to improve our carbon emission footprint where applicable.
Our facilities are just as tuned in, with energy monitoring systems tracking consumption to ensure we’re always making smart, sustainable choices. From energy to water and waste, we’re committed to doing more with less. Operationally, our environmental management is integrated into our SHEQ/Risk management approach where ISO 9001, 14001 and ISO 45001 accreditations are achieved at relevant sites as required by clients.
Green Torque initiative.
Green Torque is more than a programme – it’s a movement within Unitrans. We’re training, educating and empowering our employees to become a sustainability champion, embedding eco-consciousness into the fabric of our operations. Whether through energy-saving projects or training initiatives, Green Torque is about making sure sustainability isn’t just a strategy – it’s second nature.
Green Torque Energy forum.
Our Green Torque Energy Forum is where innovation meets action. Bringing together a cross functional team that includes technical, sustainability experts and other stakeholders , we’re driving the future of alternative fuel solutions – from electric or hydrogen demo trucks to alternative fuels of renewable gases (RCNG and RLNG). Our goal is clear: net-zero by 2050. And we’re not just dreaming it – we’re making it happen, one innovation at a time.
Tracking sustainability performance.
Our sustainability performance is rigorously tracked and reported through KAP (Unitrans’ holding company) annually in the integrated annual report ensuring we stay aligned with the best global standards. With our emissions data audited by external experts and compliance with international frameworks like the Green House Gas Protocol, we are transparent, accountable, and constantly improving.
Continuous industry engagement.
We don’t operate in isolation – we believe in the power of collaboration to help drive the charge for greener transport. As members of the Road Freight Association and CAIA’s Responsible Care programme, we actively participate in conversations and industry-wide initiatives to cut greenhouse gases. And with our commitment to Operation Clean Sweep, we’re committed to working towards achieving zero plastic pellet, flake and powder through implementing good resin handling operation “housekeeping”.
