The Owner Driver Programme is designed to help high-performance drivers transition into fully fledged entrepreneurs. Over a five- to six-year journey, participants build up capital and gain access to vehicle financing, business mentorship, and day-to-day operational support, enabling them to focus on safety, service delivery, and long-term growth. 

Once accepted, participants are fully supported within Unitrans’ operational ecosystem. From finance application assistance to access to maintenance workshops and trusted back-office support, every element is designed to set up entrepreneurs for sustainable success. 

Empowerment in Action 

This is not a subcontracting model. It’s a structured ownership journey – driven by Unitrans, managed with care, and designed for real-world logistics environments in South Africa. 

Each qualifying participant must meet the following criteria: 

• A clear credit record 
• A clear criminal record 
• A good driving record with no major accidents on file 
• A valid ultra-heavy driver’s licence 
• At least five or more years of ultra-heavy duty driving experience, including long distances 
• Dedication, business sense, and strong customer relations 
• Willingness to undergo full assessment, including practical driving evaluations 

Once accepted, each Owner Driver benefits from: 

• Access to workshop facilities, fuel, breakdown support, and authorised sleep stops 
• Assistance in setting up a business trust and managing finances via a bookkeeper 
• Ongoing mentorship in business, compliance, and operational delivery
