At Unitrans, growth is more than a corporate ambition, it’s something we cultivate in people. It’s visible in the communities we operate in, in the talent we nurture, and in the journeys of individuals who rise through the ranks not just because they were given a chance, but because they ran with it.
One such story belongs to Zamambo Shozi.
She joined Unitrans in 2010 through a learnership programme with no background in logistics, in fact, she was studying law part-time at the time. But what she did have was curiosity, commitment, and a mindset geared for growth. Those qualities, coupled with the right support structure, propelled her forward in ways she never imagined.
Today, Zama leads six major contracts across South Africa’s highly regulated petroleum space. She’s a Contract Manager trusted with multi-client operations, fleet management, team oversight, and strategic execution – a far cry from the temporary admin position she was offered after her learnership ended.

And that’s the point: Unitrans doesn’t just move goods; we move people forward.
Growth Reimagined for People, Not Just Businesses
Zama’s career journey reflects a broader truth at Unitrans – that people with passion, perseverance and a willingness to learn can shape extraordinary careers here. Over the years, she stepped into admin, HR, operations, training, and compliance roles –never waiting for growth to come to her, always ready to chase it down.
When she reached a plateau in one department, she didn’t ask to leave the business, she asked for a new challenge. And Unitrans delivered. It’s a reflection of our belief in tailored growth pathways, we understand that no two people are the same, and neither are their ambitions.
Empowerment That Goes Beyond the Desk
This is a business built on deep local insight and inclusive leadership, and that means empowering people to lead from wherever they are… in the cab, on the workshop floor, or at the head of a contract. In Zama’s case, this empowerment was evident from day one. She was mentored, encouraged to keep studying, and supported through every step of her development… from a degree in supply chain to now pursuing her Honours degree.
But what truly set her apart was her ability to lead, not just manage. She believed in herself even when others didn’t, especially in an industry that hasn’t always welcomed young Black women in leadership roles. She earned the respect of her teams, many of whom were older, more experienced drivers, by showing up every day, staying humble, and delivering with integrity.
That’s the Unitrans way: equip people with the tools, and back them to deliver.
The Ripple Effect of Opportunity
Today, Zama isn’t just leading operations, she’s paying her journey forward. She mentors her team members, encourages them to study, and fosters a culture of growth. For her, success is shared: when her team thrives, so does the business.
It’s this culture of accountability, mutual respect, and ownership that continues to define our operations across the continent. From supply chain graduates in the office to professional drivers behind the wheel, everyone has a part to play in driving operational excellence and customer value –and everyone deserves the opportunity to grow.
A Career Fuelled by Challenge and Purpose
Ask Zama what keeps her going, and it’s simple: every day is different, and every day is an opportunity to do better. Logistics, after all, is about movement. But at Unitrans, that movement is purposeful. We’re not just delivering products, we’re delivering futures.
Zamambo Shozi’s story is one of resilience, grit, and courage, but it’s also a story of what’s possible in the right environment. At Unitrans, we believe in unlocking human potential. We believe in building careers, not just filling roles. And we believe that real, sustainable growth begins with investing in people who are ready to rise.
