The Hollard Highway Heroes competition has become known as a beacon of excellence in South Africa’s transport industry. This annual competition focuses on shining the light on the heroes that keep the people of South Africa moving with dedication and care and celebrates drivers who exemplify skill, safety, and professionalism.
This year’s competition received over 9,000 entries, making the competition fiercer than ever before. Even so, Unitrans’ drivers and fleet controllers rose to the occasion, achieving remarkable results that demonstrate our deeply rooted culture and commitment to safety and excellence.
Unitrans Drivers Lead the Way

This culture is clearly evident in the outstanding performance of our drivers in this year’s competition with no less than than four of our drivers securing spots in the Top 10 in various categories:
MA Kgotlabeng (Mega Bus Kloof)
Matala Sephei (Mega Bus Virginia)
GJ Gabonewe (Mega Bus Northern Cape)
Thabisile Ndlovu (Mega Bus Secunda)
Special recognition and congratulations to Matala Sephei, who went on to win the Long Haul Bus Driver category. This is an outstanding achievement in a category that is known for placing high demands on drivers and requiring endurance, precision and a real dedication to the safety of passengers along these long journeys.
Empowering Leadership and Diversity
Transporting passengers safely from A to B requires a team effort. Boittumelo Tlali (Mega Bus Virginia) was recognised as the Category Winner – Female Fleet Controller, demonstrating how safety-conscious leadership is pivotal to ensuring seamless operations. Her success is a testament to Unitrans’ commitment to empowering women and fostering diversity in transport.
Trucking Team Raises the Bar
Unitrans approaches the movement of goods with the same precision and dedication to safety. Unitrans’ CBH Supreme driver Pule Matheo made us proud by earning a spot among the Top 10 truck drivers and emerging as the Category Winner – Reefers. This award is a testament to his mastery in handling temperature-sensitive loads with care and precision.
